Half Day at the Lake
The Half Day at the Lake is a timed endurance event held in Evanston, IL offering 12 hour and 6 hour race options on a repeated 2 mile loop. The route follows a shared paved path and sections of crushed gravel along the lakefront and past the Northwestern University campus. The path is open to walkers, runners, and occasional bicyclists and includes multiple public water fountains and restrooms.
The course is approved by the city of Evanston and Northwestern University. The event provides two aid stations: a main station at the start/finish with a variety of snacks, beverages, water, soda, sports drinks, and hot soup or broth, plus a smaller aid station near the far north end of the loop offering snacks. Finishers receive a non-alcoholic Hop Water can supplied by Sketchbook Brewery and a handcrafted finisher award.
Pacers are permitted; pacers who will run all or most of a participant’s race must be registered for a $20 fee and noted at check in. Packet pickup is available the day before at Commonwealth Running Company in Evanston and on race day at Centennial Park near the start/finish. Registration closes September 24, 2026 at 11:59 PM CT. Refunds are not guaranteed; deferrals or exceptions may be considered with requests submitted by September 19, 2026.
