Half Day at the Lake

Half Day at the Lake is a timed endurance event in Evanston, Illinois held on September 26, 2026. The event offers two timed options: a 6 hour event and a 12 hour event. The course is a two mile loop along Evanston’s lakefront and the Northwestern University campus, using a shared paved path with sections of crushed gravel. Runners may use the grass beside the path for much of the route.

The course is open to walkers, runners, and the occasional bicyclist. Multiple public water fountains and restrooms are available along the route. The event provides two aid stations: a main station at the start/finish with snacks, beverages, and hot soup or broth, and a smaller station near the north end of the loop with food and snacks. The main aid station also supplies water, soda, and sports drinks.

Finishers receive a can of Hop Water supplied by Sketchbook Brewery and a handcrafted finisher award. Pacers are permitted; the organizer asks that pacers be noted at check in and that pacers who run most of a competitor’s race be registered for a small fee. The event maker offers early registration pricing and a gift card raffle for registrations completed by set dates. Packet pickup occurs the day before the race at Commonwealth Running Company and on race day at Centennial Park. Parking is available at the NU Lakeside Parking Structure and on nearby streets.
