Rock River Canyon
Rock River Canyon is a trail running event near Munising, Michigan, held on Saturday June 6, 2026. The event offers two distances.
- 50K - out and back from Valley Spur Lodge, about 31 miles, 26 miles single track
- 27K - out and back from Valley Spur Lodge, about 16.5 miles, 100% single track
The 50K course begins at Valley Spur Lodge, follows a section of the North Country Trail to AuTrain, continues into the Rock River Canyon Wilderness, and then returns the same way. The 50K includes approximately 2690 feet of total elevation gain over the route. The 27K turns around at the AuTrain aid station.
Aid stations are vehicle accessible and placed roughly 4 to 5.4 miles apart on the 50K course. Runners are required to carry a 20 oz water bottle or a functional hydration system that can be refilled. Volunteers provide cold water, an electrolyte drink, and a selection of snacks such as bananas, chips, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and gluten free options. Drop bags can be stored in a large tent at the start and finish; items left on the island will be returned to the ferry boat store on the mainland.
Parking is available at Valley Spur. Entrant limit for the event is 100 runners. All finishers receive a commemorative award and podium awards are given for the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
