Course and logistics
The course is an out-and-back from Valley Spur Lodge via a section of the North Country Trail into the Rock River Canyon Wilderness. The 50K includes about 26 miles of single track and about 5 miles of dirt forest road, with roughly 4,390 ft of total ascent and descent over the route. The 27K follows the same out-and-back and turns at the AuTrain aid station; it is run entirely on single track.
There are six aid stations spaced roughly 4 to 5.4 miles apart (at about 4, 8.4, 12.8, 18.2, 22.6, and 27 miles). Runners are required to carry a 20 oz water bottle or a functional hydration system; aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, gels, and electrolytes. Packet pickup is available at Valley Spur Lodge the day before and on race morning. Parking is available at Valley Spur and a drop bag tent is provided near the start/finish. Finishers receive a commemorative medallion; podium and age-group awards are given. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
