Rock River Canyon is an out and back trail race based at Valley Spur Lodge south of Munising, Michigan. The route follows a seldom-used section of the North Country Trail to AuTrain and into the Rock River Canyon Wilderness before retracing eastward to Valley Spur. The full 50K route covers roughly 31 miles, composed of about 26 miles of single track and about 5 miles of dirt forest road.

The course listing shows 2,690 feet of total elevation gain and a maximum elevation near 1,028 feet. There are six aid stations spaced roughly 4 to 5.4 miles apart at about 4, 8.4, 12.8, 18.2, 22.6, and 27 miles. Runners are required to carry a 20 oz water bottle or a functional hydration system that can be refilled at aid stations, where water, an electrolyte beverage, energy gels, and electrolyte tablets are available.

Event logistics include parking at Valley Spur and a large tent area for drop bags near the start and finish. Entrant numbers are limited to 100 runners. Dogs are permitted in the start and finish area only and are not allowed on the race course. All finishers who complete their registered course receive a commemorative award; podium awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance.
