Great Hameldon Hill Race & Junior Races

The Great Hameldon Hill Race is organised by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers. The senior course is a category BS fell race of 6 miles with approximately 1109 ft of ascent. The event is held under UKA rules and is registered with the Fell Runners Association. Competitors must be at least 16 years old on race day. Runners are required to bring waterproof whole body cover in case it is needed; a decision on mandatory carrying requirements will be made on the day.

The senior route is partially marked and a route map is provided. Race numbers are collected on the day from the shelter outside The Peel Park Hotel, Turkey Street, Accrington, BB5 6QT. Course records are recorded as 36:12 for men (2004) and 42:53 for women (2017). Official results are published first on ukresults.net and later on the Fell Runners Association website and the Clayton club website. The race forms part of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix series.

Junior races cover a range of age groups from under 8 to under 18 and follow Fell Runners Association distances and rules. Distances and formats for junior categories:

  • U8 and U10: two laps of the school field, maximum 1 km.
  • U12 and U14: approximately 2 km on paths below the coppice.
  • U16 and U18: approximately 3 km on routes above the coppice.

Medals are awarded to the first three boys and girls in each junior age category. All junior finishers receive a goody bag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
