Great Hameldon Hill Race & Junior Races

The event includes a senior fell race of Category BS covering approximately 6 miles with about 1109 ft of ascent. It is organised by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, held under UKA rules and registered with the Fell Runners' Association. The senior route is partially marked and the organisers may require competitors to carry waterproof whole body cover; a decision on mandatory carry items is made on the day. The race is part of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix. Results are published on established fell-running result sites and on the club website.

Junior races run for children aged from 6 years up to under 17 years, with distances set to comply with Fell Runners' Association rules. Race numbers are collected on the day from the shelter outside The Peel Park Hotel, Turkey Street, Accrington, BB5 6QT.

Junior race distances and formats:

  • U7 and U9: two laps of the school field, maximum distance 1 km.
  • U11 and U13: approximately 2 km on the paths below the coppice.
  • U15 and U17: approximately 3 km including sections above the coppice.

Medals are awarded to the first three boys and first three girls in each junior age category. All junior finishers receive a goody bag.

The event began in 1979 and grew in local participation through the 1980s and early 1990s, with recorded peaks in senior and junior entry before later fluctuations in numbers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
