Geode Challenge Races : Geode State Park
The Geode Challenge Races are trail races held at Geode State Park with the race venue and parking located at the beach shelter area. The event began in 2018 as a fundraiser to support renovation of the park concession building; work on that project is ongoing and future fundraising will support additional park projects.
Course details include a variety of distances and use of single-track trails through the park, allowing participants to run or walk while observing fall foliage. The event is dog friendly; dogs must be kept on a short leash to avoid interfering with others on narrow trail sections.
Off-course support includes two aid stations on the course, water at the start and finish area, and light snacks and water at Shelter 4 and Shelter 1. Registration for each distance includes a race t-shirt. Fee structure listed by the organizer is:
- 5k out-and-back
- 12k single perimeter loop
- 25k two loops
The organizer lists registration fees as $45 for the 5k, $50 for the 12k, and $55 for the 25k, with a $15 discount for participants 15 and under; the discount will be available on the registration site and honored for race-day registration. Check-in is conducted on the morning of the race. The event is hosted by Friends of Geode and sponsored by the Danville Lions Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
