Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra : West Point, IA
Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at South Park / Pollmiller Lake Park in West Point, Iowa. The event is built around repeated loops of 4.167 miles on a single, consistent course that runs through the campground and park area.
Each loop must be completed within one hour to be counted. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except to use restrooms, and personal aid during a loop is not allowed though common aid stations are provided. No pacers are permitted. The winner is the last remaining runner who completes a loop within the allotted time; all other entrants are recorded by distance covered.
The course uses a mix of surfaces: about 80% paved path or road, 10% crushed gravel, and 10% trail or grass, with roughly 175 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. Unlimited water will be available, with minimal fruit, snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee while supplies last. Each participant may reserve a 10 foot by 10 foot area for crewing and tent setup. Camping on the infield of the soccer field near the start/finish is allowed with locations assigned first come first served; field lights will be used after nightfall.
Registrations made by August 1 are eligible for a hoodie and additional items. Registration closes on September 13 at 11:59 PM CT. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
