Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra
Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is a Backyard Ultra event held in West Point, IA at South Park and Pollmiller Lake Park. The event consists of repeated 4.167-mile loops that run through the campground and park area, using the same course for every loop.
Each loop must be completed within the allotted hour to count. Competitors must remain on the course except for restroom stops and must start each new loop at the official signal. Common aid stations are permitted during a loop; personal aid is restricted while a loop is underway. Pacers are not allowed. Results record the distance covered and the last remaining runner who completes one more loop than anyone else is declared the winner; if no runner completes an extra loop, there is no winner.
The course mixes paved bike path and road, crushed gravel, and trail or grass, with approximately 80% paved surface, 10% crushed gravel, and 10% trail. Elevation change is about 175 feet per loop. Organizers provide unlimited water, limited fruit and snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee until it runs out. Each participant may reserve a 10 foot by 10 foot area for crewing and tent setup.
Camping on the infield soccer field is available on a first come first serve basis pending weather, and there is ample parking near the start area. Registration closes on Fri, Sep 10. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
