West Point, United States • 19 Sep 2026
Event
Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held in West Point, Iowa, at South Park / Pollmiller Lake Park. The format uses repeated loops of 4.167 miles on a single course. Registration closes on Sep 13.
Format
Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop. Participants must be in the starting corral and start each new loop at the sounding of the bell. Competitors must complete each loop before leaving the course, with no personal aid allowed during a loop; common aid stations are permitted. No pacers or non-competitors are allowed on the course. Each participant is allowed a 10 ft x 10 ft area for crew and gear. The official result records each runner by distance covered; the last runner to complete a loop within the allotted time is the winner. If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.
Course and facilities
The loop runs through the South Park / Pollmiller Lake campground area and uses one identical day and night course. Surface breakdown is about 80% paved path/road, 10% crushed gravel, and 10% trail or grass path. Each loop has roughly 175 feet of elevation gain and loss. The event provides unlimited water, limited fruit, snacks, electrolyte supplements, and coffee while supplies last. Participants may camp on the soccer field infield on a first-come, first-serve basis; lights are provided after nightfall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
