Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra

Broken Anvil Backyard Ultra is affiliated with the Backyard Ultra Series and takes place in South Park / Pollmiller Lake Park in West Point, Iowa. The event uses a single 4.167 mile loop that is repeated for each circuit and runs through the campground and park area.

The loop surface is a mix of paved bike path and paved road (about 80%), crushed gravel (about 10%), and trail or grass path (about 10%). Each loop has roughly 175 feet of elevation gain and loss.

The format follows backyard ultra rules: each loop must be completed within an hour and a new loop begins exactly one hour after the previous one. Warnings are given three, two, and one minute before the next loop. Participants must be in the starting corral and begin the loop at the sound of the bell. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except to use restrooms. Personal aid is not allowed during a loop but common aid stations are available. No pacers or non-competitors are allowed on the course. The last runner to complete a loop within the allotted time is declared the winner; all others are recorded as DNF with distance covered reported.

On-site logistics include a 10 foot by 10 foot area per participant for crewing, unlimited water, limited fruit and snacks, and coffee while supplies last. Camping is permitted on the soccer field infield by the start area on a first come first serve basis; park lighting will be used after nightfall. Pollmiller Lake Campground offers electrical campsites and the course passes through the campground area.

Location: South Park, 61 5th Street, West Point, IA 52656. Registration closes September 13 at 11:59 PM CT. Organizers note that registrations completed by August 1 are eligible for a hoodie and other items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
