Friends of Yellow River State Forest Trail Run/ Walk
Friends of Yellow River State Forest organizes a two-day trail run and walk in Yellow River State Forest, Harpers Ferry, Iowa on May 8 and 9, 2026. The event uses existing forest trails, so published distances are approximate. Races will be timed.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K on Friday
- 5K on Saturday
- 10K
- Half marathon
Registrants must pre-register to receive a shirt; the deadline for that shirt requirement is scheduled for April but the exact date is to be determined. Online registration closes May 6, and walk-in entries are accepted. Prices listed for registration are: Friday 5K $35, Saturday 5K $35, 10K $45, Half marathon $55. Prices increase by $5 starting April 1. A Dirty Double package combines Friday and a Saturday race at reduced bundle prices and includes a hand-crafted race mug for Dirty Double participants.
Check-in begins one hour before each race at the Yellow River State Forest office, 737 State Forest Road, Harpers Ferry, Iowa. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by a registered adult and participants over age 12 must be registered. The Friday 5K is family-friendly but trails may be difficult for strollers. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are allowed.
New winner categories award male and female placements in three age divisions: 17 and under, 18 to 49, and 50 and over. Prizes are awarded for first through third place.
