Forth Ultra and Team Relay 2026

The Forth Ultra is a circular ultramarathon held around the Firth of Forth estuary. The course covers a total distance of 44 miles (71 km) with a total ascent and descent of 1,739 feet. The route connects two Scottish trails, the Fife Coastal Path and the John Muir Way, and involves crossing two bridges. The terrain consists of approximately 85% road and 15% trail.

Participants can enter the event in several categories:

  • Solo (individual runners must be 18 years or older)
  • Pairs (two person relay team)
  • Teams of 4 (four person relay team)

The route is waymarked and divided into four distinct stages. Relay teams are responsible for their own transport between checkpoints. The stages are:

  • Stage 1: Helix Park, Falkirk to Culross (10.16 miles / 16.35 km)
  • Stage 2: Culross to Forth Road Bridge (14.10 miles / 22.69 km)
  • Stage 3: Forth Road Bridge to Bo'ness (10.28 miles / 16.55 km)
  • Stage 4: Bo'ness to Helix Park, Falkirk (9.76 miles / 15.70 km)

There is a primary cut-off point at the end of Stage 2 (FerryMuir Gate), where participants must arrive within 6 hours. The overall time limit to complete the course is 11 hours. There are three checkpoints along the route providing water and snacks. Results for solo runners are submitted to the UTMB index.

Parking is available at Falkirk College, located a 15 minute walk from the start. Relay teams may also use street parking near West Mains Road, approximately 600 m from the start area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Trail runs nearby

A guided 6 km trail run from Milngavie Train Station using headtorches, following parts of the Clyde Coastal Path and West Highland Way. Social group runs with qualified guides, mandatory trail shoes and a headtorch.

A unique five-hour endurance run set in a medieval village. Runners complete as many laps as possible, starting in daylight and finishing under torchlight. Enter solo, in a pair, or as a team of four, with fancy dress strongly encouraged.

A ticketed running event in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on 5 April 2026 offering 5 km, 10 km and a half marathon, with all distances held at the park on the same day.
