Forth Ultra and Team Relay 2026

The Forth Ultra is a 44 mile / 71 km circular ultramarathon around the Firth of Forth estuary, with options to enter as a solo, a pair, or a four person relay. The route links the Fife Coastal Path and the John Muir Way and crosses two Forth Bridges.

The course profile shows total ascent and descent of 1,739 ft. Terrain is a mix of mainly road and some trail, listed as 85% road and 15% trail. The route is waymarked so no navigation is required. The event is divided into four stages with three checkpoints where water and snack stations are provided; all stages are chip timed.

  • Stage 2 - Culross to FerryMuir gate, Forth Road Bridge 14.10 miles / 22.69 km
  • Stage 3 - FerryMuir gate to Boness 10.28 miles / 16.55 km
  • Stage 4 - Boness to Helix, Falkirk 9.76 miles / 15.70 km

There is a time limit of 11 hours for the full course and a midpoint cut-off at the end of stage 2 set at 6 hours. Finishers receive a medal and race t-shirt; other items listed for participants include race chip timing, snack bars, and event support at checkpoints. A guided 8 km night trail run from Milngavie Train Station exploring the Clyde Coastal path and West Highland Way. Social pace with a qualified guide, mandatory trail shoes and headtorch, and no dogs or under 18s.

An uphill only hill race to the summit of Ben Ledi on 11 April 2026 covering 5.3 km and 760 m ascent, open entry with Scottish Athletics membership required for championship medals.
