Folding Mountain Ultra
Event overview
The Folding Mountain Ultramarathon is a mountain trail race on the edge of Jasper National Park, based at Folding Mountain Landing near Jasper East Cabins and Jasper East Hostel. The event features on-site food, music, and beer from Folding Mountain Brewing. Mandatory race check-in and package pickup take place the day before the race at Jasper East Hostel. The race weekend includes local lodging options and nearby attractions such as Miette Hot Springs, Roche Miette, and Jasper Lake.
Courses and logistics
Distances:
- 60 km - 2,430 m elevation gain; technical terrain; 14 hr cutoff
- 25 km - 1,086 m elevation gain; technical, steep; 14 hr cutoff
The 60 km course is two legs: a 35 km Cap Ridge Loop with steep early climbs and ridgelines, and a 25 km Folding Mountain Trail with steep climbing, alpine ridgelines, and a short scree section near the summit. The 60 km may be run solo or as a two-person relay with an exchange at base camp. The 25 km is an out-and-back that includes a fast 6.5 km approach, followed by the Folding Mountain climb, a false-summit aid station, and a descent back to Folding Mountain Landing.
Final course maps and GPX files will be released in Spring 2026. Registration opens November 21, 2025 at 8:00 am MT. Early bird and regular pricing tiers are specified for each distance and category.
Safety, gear and inclusions
Mandatory gear includes a running pack or waist belt, at least 1 L of fluids, minimum 400-500 calories of food, a windproof or waterproof hooded jacket, emergency blanket or bivy sack, whistle, and a collapsible cup. Entries include a race tee, finisher medal, on-course nutrition and hydration, post-race food, beer from Folding Mountain Brewing, and a donation to Hinton Search and Rescue.
