Fisherman’s Picnic Trail Run is a set of trail and road runs held at Pincushion Mountain Trails, 2 miles north of Grand Marais off the Gunflint Trail on County Road 12. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Pincushion Ski and Run Club.
Distances offered
- 10 km trail race, all ages
- 5 km run walk, all ages
- 1 mile kids run walk, 12 and under
- 440 yards quarter mile kids run walk, 7 and under
The 2026 event features new 5k and 10k courses. Trails are generally wide and grassy with some exposed roots and rocks. Terrain includes rolling hills and sections with steep climbs. The 5k course stays entirely on nordic ski trails. The 10k course also uses a segment of the Superior Hiking Trail within the Pincushion Trails area and includes sections of technical terrain such as loose rocks and exposed tree roots. There is one aid station near the halfway point of the 10k; there is no aid station on the 5k.
Logistics noted by the organizer include chip timing for the 1 mile, 5k and 10k races, unisex short sleeve shirts, no refunds, and event cancellation only for extremely dangerous conditions such as severe lightning. Running with a stroller is not advised and dogs are discouraged for this event. Registration is handled through RunSignup and same day registration is available.
