Fisherman's Picnic Trail Run

The Fisherman's Picnic Trail Run is a set of trail races held on Pincushion Mountain Trails near Grand Marais, Minnesota. The event includes multiple distances and youth races on maintained nordic ski and hiking trails in the Pincushion Trails area.

Distances offered:

  • 10k trail race - all ages
  • 5k run/walk - all ages
  • Quarter mile kids run/walk - 7 and under
  • One mile run/walk - 12 and under

The 5k and 10k courses were revised for 2026. Trails are described as wide and grassy with some exposed roots and rocks. The terrain includes rolling hills and some steep climbs. The 5k course stays entirely on nordic ski trails. The 10k course also uses a segment of the Superior Hiking Trail and includes technical sections such as loose rocks and exposed tree roots. There is one aid station at approximately the halfway point of the 10k; there is no aid station on the 5k.

Timing and event services: the one mile, 5k and 10k are chip timed. Unisex short sleeve shirts are available for the first 200 registrants. No refunds will be issued. Dogs and strollers are discouraged due to trail conditions. Student runners from Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Cook County may receive a $20 discount on the 5k or 10k; a special registration link is required for that discount. Same-day registration is available. The event is a fundraiser for the Pincushion Ski and Run Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
