Fire Tower Trail Races
The Fire Tower Trail Races take place in St. Croix State Park, Minnesota's largest state park. This event features a flat course that winds through various natural landscapes, including forests, the Kettle River valley, and prairies. The race is designed as a small, old-school style trail event with an emphasis on accessibility and welcoming marathon and ultramarathon distances.
The event offers four distinct race distances:
- 100K
- 50K
- 35K
- 11K
Participants in the 50K and 100K distances encounter a unique requirement during their run: climbing to the top of the historic fire tower located within the park. Runners in the 50K climb the tower once, while those in the 100K complete the climb twice. For participants who cannot complete the climb, a vertigo option is provided as an alternative.
The race headquarters facilitates camping for participants. The event provides food on-site and maintains generous cut-off times for the various distances. The course is located within the scenic Kettle River valley, providing a natural setting for runners to test their stamina on the trails.
