Fire and Ice Winter Run
The Fire and Ice Winter Run takes place on February 21, 2026 at Gilbert Lake State Park in New York. The event offers multiple distance options on a looped trail course around the lake.
- 50k
- 25k
- 10k
The primary course is a 6+ mile loop with about 625 feet of elevation gain, composed mainly of single and double track trails, gravel paths, and some roads. Runners completing the 50k will cover five loops, the 25k two plus loops, and the 10k one loop. Fifty kilometer entrants are allowed until sunset to finish.
A conditions update from 2/20/26 reports wet, soft snow on the trails with average depths of a few inches. The organizer adjusted the route to include a loop section followed by two counterclockwise laps around the lake. Traction devices and running snowshoes are recommended; wool or waterproof socks and water resistant footwear are advised.
Aid will be provided at a cabin and a staffed aid station offering hot ramen and broth with vegetarian and chicken options, bagels, bananas, pretzels, assorted cookies, Coke, water, coffee, and warmth from fireplaces. Runners who drop from the 50k or 25k may move to a shorter distance; dropping before the race preserves award eligibility for the new distance, while dropping during the race yields an official finish but no award eligibility.
Registration is handled through Ultrasignup with fees listed as 50k $45, 25k $35, and 10k $30. All net proceeds support The Neighborhood Center, a local nonprofit providing childcare, family, and mental health services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
