Fan Fawr is a short fell race held from the lay-by opposite Storey Arms on the A470 Merthyr-Brecon road (postcode LD3 8NL, grid reference SO983204). The course includes a steep ascent and is run on mountain terrain.

The race distance is 3.2 km / 2 mi with approximately 305 m / 1001 ft of climb. Safety information notes that experience is required, local knowledge is beneficial, and navigational skills are required.

Course records are listed as 16:02 (male, 1991) and 19:16 (female, 1991). Minimum age for entry is over 16; junior races are to be confirmed. Entry on the day costs £2 only.
