F^3 Cap Sauers Trail Marathon & 10 Mile

The F^3 Cap Sauers Trail Marathon & 10 Mile takes place in Palos Hills, Illinois, within the Cap Sauers Holding Nature Preserve. This preserve is the largest tract of undeveloped land in Cook County. The races utilize the Sag Valley Trail system, covering the Yellow, Green, Blue, and Tan trails. Participants can choose between two race distances:

  • Trail Marathon (26.2 Miles)
  • 10 Mile (10 Miles)

The courses consist of wide horsetrails with minimal technical trail running required. Because the layout involves two-way traffic on several sections, runners frequently pass one another throughout the event. The Trail Marathon course consists of two circuits of the 10-mile loop followed by a final 10k out-and-back section. This route includes approximately 1,050 feet of elevation gain. The 10 Mile course features over 400 feet of elevation gain.

Aid stations are positioned at various intervals, including at each turnaround point. The stations provide water and electrolyte drinks, while specific locations also offer gels, pickles, gummy bears, and chips. Portable toilets are located at the east and west ends of the course. The marathon distance includes nine aid opportunities at miles 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, and 23. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
