Excalibur Trail Races 2027

The event takes place on Sunday 9 May 2027 in the Clwydian Range, based at Coed Moel Famau Car Park with routes that include Moel Famau and surrounding footpaths. Access is via the A494 between Mold and Ruthin, following signs for Tafarn Y Gelyn and Moel Famau. Race HQ is signposted at the car park and includes a secure baggage area.

Available distances:

  • Marathon
  • Half marathon
  • 10k

Routes are mainly on trails and footpaths with hilly terrain and some more technical sections. The courses cross farmland; dog entrants must remain on a harness or lead. Route signage and marshals are provided, and numbered checkpoints supply water and snack items from water containers with taps. Competitors must carry a full water bottle from the start and will need to refill at checkpoints as cups are not provided.

The registration desk issues a race number with chip, safety pins and a waterproof map. Random kit checks take place in the starting area. Required kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, hat (a buff is acceptable), gloves, map (supplied), compass, whistle and a refillable bottle. Mountain Rescue support and sweepers are on course. There is a cut-off at Aifft on the full marathon route; runners arriving after the cut-off will be asked to skip the top loop and return, shortening the route by about three miles.

Race HQ offers catering, a bar and toilets. Single use bottled water will not be given to finishers; drinks will be available at the finish table and the event will provide a non-medal memento with a sustainability focus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
