El Jefe 100
The El Jefe Hundred is a long-distance trail race held near Superior, Arizona. The event covers 105 miles on a point-to-point course that runs almost entirely on remote singletrack through Sonoran Desert terrain. It takes place on National Forest Lands.
The route passes through classic desert vegetation including saguaro, palo verde, and mesquite, creating a scrubby green canopy across sections of the course. The course profile includes significant vertical movement with an elevation gain of 12,548 feet and an elevation loss of 13,910 feet.
Race logistics include six aid stations dispersed along the route and a 36 hour overall cutoff. The event is presented as a tribute to a jaguar known locally as El Jefe and references the Sky Island wilderness of the Sonoran Desert.
