El Jefe 100
Deep in the Sonoran Desert a lone jaguar once roamed the Sky Island wilderness. Known as El Jefe "The Boss" the race is presented as a tribute to that local wildlife and landscape.
The course is a point to point route near Superior, Arizona that runs almost entirely on remote singletrack through classic Sonoran Desert terrain, with saguaro, palo verde, and mesquite forming a scrubby green canopy. The distance is 105 miles on National Forest Lands. Total elevation gain is 12,548 feet and elevation loss is 13,910 feet. The race operates with six aid stations and a 36 hour cutoff.
Information for participants includes a course map and a runner manual. Photography appears with the event materials. The event is scheduled for early April 2027 and takes place across National Forest Lands within the Sonoran Desert region. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
