Dysart Woods

Dysart Woods is a trail running event located in County Laois, situated between Portlaoise and Stradbally. The race primarily takes place within a native woodland environment and a Coillte forest. The main course consists of a 6.5 km anti-clockwise loop. Participants navigate a track that includes sections on wooded trails, climbs up Hewson Hill, and steep technical descents. The total elevation gain for the main route is 250 meters.

Available distances include:

  • 6.5 km
  • 3 km

The 3 km junior route is designed as an out and back course. For safety and navigation, the entire route is fully marked, and the use of GPS devices is permitted. Due to the nature of the terrain and underfoot conditions, the use of proper trail running shoes is strongly recommended.

All participants must comply with safety regulations by carrying a mandatory kit, which includes a showerproof and windproof jacket. The event is open to members of the Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA). Entry requires online pre-registration as no cash entries are accepted on the day of the race. The event starts in Carrigmeal Woodlands before entering Dysart Woods. Parking is available in a nearby field, and carpooling is encouraged with a tiered parking fee structure based on vehicle occupancy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
