Course and logistics

The course uses an inner (clockwise) and an outer (counter-clockwise) loop. The outer loop is about 20 miles with roughly 5,000 ft of elevation gain per loop; the first two loops include two additional taps on the Pinhoti Connector adding about 3.4 miles and 1,500 ft. Runners should plan for roughly 25,000 ft of elevation gain on the 100-mile effort. The Power Line Climb is about 1 mile with about 1,000 ft of gain, including a steep quarter-mile section.

Each loop contains multiple aid points: three full aid stations, an aid point with packaged food, and two water points (six aid points per loop). Crew access is allowed at Lakeside, Cool Springs Overlook, and the Start/Finish area. Some trail sections are technical, while much of the route is rolling double-wide trail. Pacer pickup rules vary by distance and loop count; pacers are permitted at designated crew-accessible aid stations. Cutoff times are enforced for safety.
