DT Stone Anvil, Chatsworth GA
The Stone Anvil is a set of trail races held inside Fort Mountain State Park in the Cohutta Mountains near Chatsworth, GA. The event uses a folded inner (clockwise) and outer (counter-clockwise) loop. The outer loop is about 20 miles with roughly 5,000 feet of elevation gain; two taps on the Pinhoti trail add about 3.4 miles and 1,500 feet. The start and finish area is near the main parking area by the lake.
Each loop includes six aid points: four full aid stations, one check station with water, and one water point. Crew access is available at Lakeside, Cool Springs Overlook, and the start/finish area. The course has technical trail sections and many climbs; elevation gain per loop is roughly 5,500 feet and the 100 mile course records about 25,000 to 27,000 feet of total gain by barometric measurement.
Pacer rules vary by distance. 200 mile and 100 mile runners may pick up or drop off a pacer after the second loop. 100k runners may pick up a pacer after one and a half loops. Packet pickup is scheduled on evenings before the respective race starts and at the start/finish area.
