Down and Dirty Trail Run at Whitetail Ridge
The Down and Dirty Trail Run is the 12th annual mud-filled event held at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area on Fort McCoy in Sparta, WI (8061 West J Street). The event is described as family-friendly and open to the public; no Department of Defense ID is required for participation.
The course is approximately 1.5 miles long and includes more than ten muddy obstacles. Registration includes a commemorative water bottle, a headband, and a finisher medal; pre-registered participants receive swag the day of the event while supplies last. To guarantee a water bottle and headband, registrants are asked to register by a date listed as TBD; registrations after that date do not guarantee those items.
Onsite amenities and services include food and beverages available for purchase, a bounce house and yard games for children, outdoor showers (noted to be cold), and limited duct tape. Participants are advised to bring a towel and a change of clothes and are encouraged to tape shoes before arriving.
Additional practical details: free parking is available and refunds are offered up to seven days before the event. Heats are scheduled to be released at intervals of roughly five to ten minutes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
