Black River Trail Classic

Black River Trail Classic is a trail running event held in Black River State Forest near Millston, WI. Races start and finish at the Smrekar Lot, with course routes that run through woodlands and rolling terrain. The state forest covers about 68,000 acres and features landforms formed by glaciation such as buttes, hills, knolls, ridges and pediments, plus scenic overlooks and ridge views with fall colors.

Distances offered include:

• 10k, $50 regular, $35 early bird
• 25k, $70 regular, $55 early bird
• 50k, $85 regular, $70 early bird
• 85k, $135 regular, $120 early bird

Prices are listed before sales tax and platform fees. Early bird discounted registration ends 9/1/26.

The 85k course combines the other courses: participants run the 10k, then the 50k, then finish with the 25k. There is a 12 hour cut off for the 85k; since 2022 there have been 11 finishers. Organizers describe the 85k as starting early and using the full set of race loops.

Event amenities and features include a winter hat for registrants, collectable handcrafted wooden finisher medals, personalized bibs for early registrants, hooded sweatshirt and commemorative patch for a first 85k finish plus additional patches for subsequent finishes, hot food at the finish line, pies, chapstick, and very well marked courses.

On site camping is available. A number of nearby hotels are available though there is no official race hotel. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
