46th Annual Doc Lopez Run for Health
The Doc Lopez Run for Health is a community sports event held in the Adirondack region of New York. This spring tradition brings together runners and outdoor enthusiasts to support population health initiatives at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. The event honors the legacy of Dr. Robert "Doc" Lopez, a veterinarian and local runner who participated in the 1980 Winter Olympics torch relay.
The event features three distinct distances:
- 1/2 Marathon: A 13.1-mile point-to-point course starting in Keene Valley and following the NY Route 9N corridor.
- 5k Run: A family friendly Adirondack trail race that allows participants to run, jog, or walk.
- Kids' 5k Run: A dedicated event open to participants aged 10 and under.
The half marathon route follows a scenic path into Elizabethtown, while the 5k distance utilizes a trail route at the Cobble Hill Golf Course. Proceeds from the event support local health programs, including a community food cupboard, free health clinics, and travel assistance for patients. Running club and family discounts are available during the registration process.
The event has been held for over 45 years. Although the specific routes and charitable focuses have evolved since its inception in 1980, the core mission remains centered on encouraging outdoor activity and supporting community care. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
