Dizzy Horse Backyard Ultra
Dizzy Horse is a Backyard Ultra held at the Bonneville County Exhibition Hall and Sandy Downs Park in Idaho Falls, ID on January 8, 2027. The format requires each remaining participant to run a loop of 4.167 miles every hour, starting together at the top of each hour, and continuing until only one runner remains.
Course surfaces are a mix of grass (about 25%), horse racetrack (20%), dirt (35%), sand (8%), and pavement (12%); in January the course could also be covered in snow. A sand section along the canal includes a climb totaling about 35 feet of vertical gain. A porta-potty is available near the halfway point and heated bathrooms are provided at the venue.
Two participation levels are offered. Bareback provides a general indoor transition area with water and bathroom access and lower entry cost. Thoroughbred includes deluxe aid station service with catered food, a reserved indoor space, and a custom hoodie among other options. Upgrade items and costs are available for additional purchase, including a bib belt ($5.50), T-shirt ($18), hoodie ($35), deluxe aid access ($45 per person), and a reserved 10 by 10 foot interior space ($50; 15 available).
Crew may use reserved spaces and limited general areas but may not assist active runners while they are on the loop. The race awards a Last Horse Standing winner and gives DNF awards and milestone recognitions such as 50 miles and 100 miles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
