The Dizzy Horse Backyard Ultra is a winter backyard-ultra held on December 12, 2025 in Idaho Falls, ID at the Bonneville County Exhibition Hall and Sandy Downs Park (7791 S 15th E). The format requires every remaining participant to complete a 4.167-mile loop each hour; laps repeat until only one runner completes one more lap than the next competitor. Course
The 4.167-mile loop mixes grass, horse racetrack, dirt, sand and pavement (listed as about 25% grass, 20% racetrack, 35% dirt, 8% sand, 12% pavement) and is often snow-covered in December. One sand section includes a climb of about 35 feet. Water is available on course at roughly the 2-mile mark. Runners must complete each loop before rejoining the starting corral for the next lap; a bell gives warnings before each lap.
Support and rules
Basic registration includes race entry, basic aid (water) and a DNF award; base cost is $50. Optional upgrades are available and limited (examples: $18 T-shirt, $35 hoodie, $40 Deluxe Aid Station access, $40 reserved 10'x10' indoor space). The Deluxe Aid Station is inside the Exhibition Hall with a rotating menu and broader beverage options; food access for non-runners with tickets is limited to the first half of each hour. Crew may not assist runners on course but may provide aid between laps; reserved indoor spaces include room for crew and personal gear (limited number available).

2024: 80 starters, 32 reached 50 miles (12 hours); the female record was raised to 19 laps and one participant completed 20 laps (over 80 miles). 2023: 47 starters, 17 reached 50 miles, 3 reached 100 miles; top distances included 154.167 miles and 150 miles.
