Dick Collins Firetrails : Overview
Dick Collins Firetrails is an annual trail running event held at Lake Chabot Marina, Castro Valley, California. The 43rd edition is scheduled for September 26, 2026. The event program for 2026 includes the following races:
- 100k
- 50-mile
- Marathon
All races are UTMB Index events. The Firetrails 50-mile race is part of the Pacific USATF Grand Prix. The 2026 course will restore many sections used in earlier decades; a Course Reveal and athlete guides are planned for January 2026.
Race logistics and support
Aid stations, course maps, profiles, and driving directions are provided in the Course section of the organizer information. Most aid stations are vehicle accessible and open to crew unless explicitly marked "No Crew." Courses are marked with ribbons, clothes pins, occasional flour, directional arrows, and wrong-way signs. Drop bags are supported at the Big Bear aid station and will be returned after Big Bear closes. Pacers are allowed for the 100k and 50-mile events and must register in advance; pacers are not allowed for the Marathon. Pacers must provide their own transport and may enter or exit at designated locations.
Parking at Lake Chabot carries a $5 fee.
Time limits, awards and rules
Time limits and cutoffs are firm and enforced; runners who miss cutoffs will be removed from the course. Reported time limits are 16.5 hours for the 100k, 15.5 hours for the 50-mile, and 13.5 hours for the Marathon. Runners may not change distance during the race and still receive an official finish.
Finishers receive race apparel and commemorative items. Bay Ridge 100k finishers receive a rhino belt buckle plus other finisher items; Firetrails 50 and Golden Hills Marathon finishers receive shirts, hoodies, a wine glass, custom bib, woodallion, and race photos. Age group awards are given by 10-year age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
