Death by 5k Oak Mountain is a 24-hour challenge held on November 22, 2025 at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, AL. The event requires participants to complete ten 5 km runs. Each 5 km run is spaced 2.5 hours apart. Participants must be present at the start of each 5 km and must finish that 5 km before the next one begins. Running in the dark is part of the event, so headlamps, hand lights, or other illumination are required.

Logistics and amenities
The start and finish are located near the Dogwood Pavilion at the South Trailhead. The course begins on the Lake Trail, continues onto Rattlesnake Ridge, and makes a counterclockwise loop back to the start. Five hot meals are served during the event, and additional snacks and drinks are available. Participants receive an event shirt. Finishers receive a custom-made coffin.
Sleeping options include vehicle sleeping in the parking lot or tent camping in the grass camping field across the road. Tent camping is first come, first served, costs $20 per night, and allows up to four people per campsite. Tent campers must stop at the park entrance to complete standard camping paperwork. Truck campers and camper vans may park in the parking lot using a single parking spot; there is no separate parking-lot camping fee. Participants must pay the $5 Oak Mountain entry fee unless they have a season pass or have paid for a campsite. Registration is initially limited to 200 participants, with a waitlist used afterward.
