The Dark Knight Trail Run, also known as the Goats in the Dark 5k, is a unique night trail race held on Helena’s west side trails in Montana. This family-friendly event takes place in late August, offering runners pleasant nighttime temperatures and beautiful sunset views before darkness sets in. The 5k course starts at LeGrande Cannon Blvd and Silverette St, following trails on Mount Helena’s western flank, including Swaney, Diretissima, Ambrose, and Panhandle trails. Participants navigate switchbacks and singletrack terrain, finishing with a sprint back to the start/finish line. Headlamps are required, adding to the race’s adventurous nighttime atmosphere.
