Wild Journeys - Cumbria Way

This is a three day multi day ultra running challenge along the Cumbria Way in the Lake District. The route begins in Ulverston and finishes in the city of Carlisle, with overnight stays in Great Langdale, Keswick and Carlisle.

The event is run with a small group format and includes van transfer for overnight bags. It is presented as a team challenge rather than a race, with a host accompanying participants for the full journey.

The route details for each day are described as follows.

  • Day 1: approx 27 miles | 48 km, Ulverston to Great Langdale
  • Day 2: approx 20 miles | 32 km, Great Langdale to Keswick
  • Day 3: approx 26 miles | 42 km, Keswick to Carlisle

Day 1 follows open countryside, Beacon Tarn, Coniston Water, Tarn Hows, Elterwater and the Langdale Valley before an overnight stay at a bunkhouse in Great Langdale. Day 2 includes a climb over Stake Pass, descent into Borrowdale, riverside and woodland trails and shoreline running on Derwent Water into Keswick with accommodation at the Denton Bunkhouse. Day 3 passes through Skiddaw Forest, climbs to High Pike, then descends via Caldbeck and farmland to Carlisle for the final overnight stay.

Trail runs nearby

A 10 km urban trail through central Carlisle on 06 May 2026 that passes Carlisle Cathedral, Millennium Bridge and Carlisle Castle. Entry is limited to 300 runners aged 15 and over with overall and age group prizes.

Tackle a classic Lake District fell race from Dockray to Hartside on Wed 6 May 2026, covering 10 km with a stiff 800 m of climb. Entry on the day is £5 with parking at the quarry car park. Expect a tough scenic course and friendly vibes.

A fully way marked 47 mile trail around Lake Windermere, open to runners and walkers with 24 hours to complete. The route has GPS support, five aid stations, a halfway bag drop, a finishers meal and a locally sourced medal.

Canicross at Dodd Wood on 9 May 2026 with two marked, chip timed loops and views over Bassenthwaite Lake. Choose an 8K route with 370 m ascent or a 5K route with 210 m ascent; two dogs per runner are allowed on wide sections.
