Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series #4
The Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series #4 is a community trail running event held in King County’s Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park in Newcastle, WA. The series has raised over $250,000 for King County Parks and contributed many hundreds of hours of volunteer trail work. The event is organized by local running groups and race organizers as part of an annual series.
Distances offered:
- 5k
- 14.5 miles
- 26.2 miles
The courses run through forested terrain with rolling, runnable hills. Trails vary from narrow, technical single-track to wider, groomed routes, and the routes pass through lush forest, fern-lined single-track, over hills, and along marshes. The park is located about 15 minutes from Seattle.
Online pre-registration is available until August 5, and event-day registration is also offered. Course maps and more detailed maps for Cougar Mountain are provided by the park and the race organizers.
Aid stations are located along each course. The 5k has an aid station at about 1.2 miles (no cut-off). The 14.5-mile course has aid stations near 3.0, 4.6, 7.1, and 10.3 miles. The 26.2-mile course has aid stations near 5.4, 6.9, 10.7, 14.2, 18.3, and 24.8 miles; some stations include time cut-offs.
The race participates in the Pacific Northwest Youth Trail Project; youth compete alongside adults and score points in age and gender categories for a regional series. Series standings require at least three results within either the Short Series or the Long Series; results from the two series may not be combined.
