The course consists of a 6 mile loop on the Olmsted Trail. This route parallels Highway 49 and the American River Canyon, leading through open, rolling hills populated with several species of oak trees. During the spring, the landscape also features various wildflowers. The terrain includes steep canyon climbs and descents as the trail crosses both Knickerbocker and Salt Creeks.
