Cool Moon Trail Races

Distances
The event offers six race distances:
- 100K
- 50 miles
- 25 miles
- 13.5 miles
- 11.5 miles
- 5K
Course
The longer trail runs use combinations of two loops: a 13.5-mile North loop and an 11.5-mile South loop. The 100K distance repeats these loops. The 5K course is a mix of asphalt road and trail. The terrain includes single track and fire roads. The course is described as extremely well-marked.
Elevation
The estimated elevation gain for each distance is:
- 100K: approximately 9000 ft
- 50 miles: approximately 6,700 ft
- 25 miles: approximately 3,350 ft
- 13.5-mile loop: approximately 2200 ft
- 11.5-mile loop: approximately 1150 ft
- 5K: approximately 243 ft of gain/loss
Schedule
The event takes place over two days. The 100K, 50-mile, and 25-mile races are on the first day. The 13.5-mile, 11.5-mile, and 5K races are on the second day.
Aid Stations
On the North 13.5-mile loop, aid stations are at The Ranch (mile 4.5), Top of Dam Switchbacks (mile 8.8, water only), Knickerbocker (mile 10), The Ranch again (mile 12.3), and the Cool Staging Area start/finish (mile 13.5). On the South 11.5-mile loop, aid stations are at Knickerbocker (mile 16), Pilot Hill (mile 19, water only), Catecroft (mile 20.5), Knickerbocker again (mile 23), and the Cool Staging Area start/finish (mile 25).
Logistics
Packet pickup is available on the Friday afternoon before the race or on the respective race mornings at the Cool Staging Area. Parking is free and included with registration. Live runner tracking is available at www.ultralive.net for all distances. For the 100K, 50-mile, and 25-mile races, drop bags can be left at the Cool Staging Area and Knickerbocker.
Cutoffs & Rules
The 100K has a 37-hour cutoff. The 50-mile and 25-mile races have a 35-hour cutoff. The 13.5-mile, 11.5-mile, and 5K races have no cutoff. Pacers are allowed only after a runner completes the third loop (mile 38.5) in the 100K and 50-mile races. Crews are restricted to the Cool Staging Area start/finish.
Participant Perks
All finishers receive a medal and a shirt. 50-mile finishers receive a custom plaque. 100K finishers receive a custom buckle. Top three overall male and female finishers for each distance receive custom plaques. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
