Cool Moon Trail Races : June 13–14, 2026
The event in Cool, California features multiple trail distances hosted from the Cool Staging Area/Cool Firehouse. Distances offered include:
- 100K
- 50 Miler
- 25 Miler
- 13.5 Miler
- 11.5 Miler
- 5K
The trail layout is based on two primary loops: a 13.5-mile North loop and an 11.5-mile South loop. Runners complete the North loop first, then the South loop to achieve their chosen distance. The surface is a mix of single track and fire roads, with named segments such as Western States trail, Pig Farm, Olmstead, Knickerbocker, Salt Creek, Triple Creek, Rim Trail, and others. The course is well marked.
Elevation totals are provided per distance, for example approximately 9,000 feet for the 100K and 6,700 feet for the 50-miler. The 5K follows roughly 1.45 miles of asphalt then returns on trail, measured at about 3.43 miles with 243 feet of elevation change.
Aid stations are located at multiple points on each loop; some stations are full-service and others water-only. Live runner tracking is available and timing chips are used. Packet pickup is available at the Cool Staging Area on pre-race and race mornings. Pacers are permitted for the 100K and 50-miler after completion of the third loop; crews may assist only at the Cool Staging Area. Drop bags are allowed for the 100K, 50-miler, and 25-miler. Finishers receive a medal and shirt; additional awards include a plaque for 50-mile finishers and a buckle for 100K finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
