Cool Moon Trail Races
The Cool Moon Trail Races take place in Cool, California on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, 2026. Multiple distances are offered on a looped trail system around the Cool Staging Area. Live runner tracking will be used and timing chips are provided for all athletes.
Distances include:
- 100K
- 50 mile
- 25 mile
- 13.5 mile
- 11.5 mile
- 5K
The base course is composed of a 13.5 mile North loop and an 11.5 mile South loop. Runners complete North then South loops in sequence to achieve longer distances. The terrain includes single track and fire roads and features sections on the historic Western States trail, Pig Farm trail, Olmstead trail, Salt Creek Loop, and other single track connectors. The course is described as well marked.
Reported elevation gain approximations:
- 100K approximately 9,000 feet
- 50 mile approximately 6,700 feet
- 25 mile approximately 3,350 feet
- 13.5 mile loop approximately 2,200 feet
- 11.5 mile loop approximately 1,150 feet
Aid stations are placed on both loops with a mix of full stations and water only locations at specified mile points. The 5K is roughly 3.43 miles, half on road and half on trail, with about 243 feet of elevation change.
Additional logistics include packet pickup options at the Cool Staging Area, drop bag locations for the 100K, 50 mile, and 25 mile, pacer and crew rules for the 100K and 50 mile, and finisher awards. All finishers receive a medal and shirt; 50 mile finishers receive a plaque and 100K finishers receive a buckle. Top three overall male and female finishers at each distance receive plaques.
