Cool Moon Race - trail distances on two loops
Cool Moon Race runs multiple distances on June 13-14, 2026, using two core loops that combine single track and fire roads. Live runner tracking is provided and timing chips are used. Parking is free and included with registration.
Distances offered:
- 100K (approx 9000' elevation)
- 50 mile (approx 6700' elevation)
- 25 mile (approx 3350' elevation)
- 13.5 mile loop (approx 2200' elevation)
- 11.5 mile loop (approx 1150' elevation)
- 5K (course length listed as 3.43 miles)
The competition uses a 13.5-mile North loop and an 11.5-mile South loop. Runners combine loops in sequence to reach the various distances. Course features named trails and sections including the Western States trail, Pig Farm, K2, Olmstead, The Ranch, Salt Creek Loop, Knickerbocker, Blue Oak, Triple Creek, Rim Trail, Pilot Hill, Catecroft, and hidden lake trails. The course is described as well-marked.
Aid stations are placed around each loop with locations such as The Ranch, Top of Dam Switchbacks, Knickerbocker, Pilot Hill, and Catecroft; some stations provide water only while others are full. Time cutoffs apply to the 100K, 50 mile, and 25 mile distances; shorter distances have no cutoff. Pacers are permitted after completion of the third loop and crews may aid runners at the Cool Staging Area. Drop bags are available for the longer distances at Cool and Knickerbocker.
All finishers receive a medal and shirt. Additional awards include a plaque for 50 mile finishers, a buckle for 100K finishers, and top-3 overall plaques for each distance and gender. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
