City to Sea : event description

The event offers three distances that follow the coast between Exeter and Babbacombe Downs. The 50k and marathon both start at Exeter Quayside and follow the Exe Estuary to Dawlish Warren. The half marathon starts at Dawlish Warren and joins the same coastal route.

The route runs along the Sea Wall to Dawlish, then the South West Coast Path to Teignmouth and across Shaldon Bridge to Shaldon. This coastal section is mainly flat tarmac with some gravel paths. From Shaldon the course continues on hilly trails to Babbacombe Downs and the finish. The 50k includes an extra loop from Babbacombe to Meadfoot Beach and back along the coast path.

There will be signage and marshals where needed; the coast path is marked with Acorn signage. The event is cupless and participants must bring their own cup or bottle. Aid station counts are: four for the marathon, five for the 50k and two for the half marathon. Cut-offs are nine hours for the marathon and 50k, and six hours for the half marathon.

Mandatory kit includes a mobile phone with the Race Director phone number loaded. Required start hydration is at least 500 ml capacity for marathon and 50k, and 250 ml for the half. The 50k must carry the GPX file on phone or watch for the extra loop.
