City of the Sun 5K Trail Run - Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site
The City of the Sun 5K Trail Run takes place on November 8, 2026, at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville, Illinois. The event follows a 3.1-mile (5K) course that moves through sections of the site not typically seen by all visitors.
The route includes paved paths, wooded trails, grassy stretches and occasionally muddy terrain. Timing is provided by Toolen's Running Start of Shiloh, Illinois. Parking is free and available in the main lot. A featured snack provider is Curmbl Cookies from Shiloh, Illinois.
All proceeds fund community outreach events and educational programs at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. The event is organized by the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society. Packet pickup is available on November 6 and November 7 during gift shop hours, and on race day at the Interpretive Center. Awards include overall male and female and first through third place in each age division. Age divisions listed are 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & Up.
