The Chemin-A-Haut 4 Mile Trail Run and 1 Mile Walk takes place in Bastrop, Louisiana, at 14656 State Park Road. The 2026 edition will be the 10th year of the event.

Course and Setting

The event features a 4 mile trail run and a 1 mile walk. The course follows natural trails through a forest and along a lakeshore and bayou. The route is described as being the same path used by Native Americans centuries ago, set within one of Louisiana's oldest state parks.

Participation and Awards

Participants can register as part of a team. Teams compete for categories such as "Most Team Members," "Most Spirited," and "Most Creatively Dressed." Awards are given for the top overall male and female finishers, as well as first and second place in age groups from 14 and under to 70 and over. The awards and medallions are hand-made from Cypress wood.

Registration and Fees

Registration fees are structured as follows:

  • 4 Mile Run: $30 from July 1 through August 31, then $40 from September 1 through October 12.
  • 1 Mile Walk: $25 from July 1 through August 31, then $35 from September 1 through October 12.

Online registration closes on October 12 and is not available again until after the event. Walk-in registration is available on the morning of the event, October 19.

Community Impact

All proceeds from the event are invested in projects to promote Morehouse Parish. These projects include supporting Chemin-A-Haut State Park, Bussey Brake Reservoir, the Morehouse Memorial Airport, the Rose Theatre, a new campus of Louisiana Delta Community College, and the Bastrop Animal Shelter. Run the flat trails of Bussey Brake near Bastrop, Louisiana. Choose from a 50K, 16-mile, or 8-mile course on this scenic reservoir loop. All finishers get a medal, with hot food and aid stations provided along the way.
