Event Overview
The Pére Malfait Trail Race takes place at the Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area near Bastrop, Louisiana. The event offers three race distances: 50K, 16 Miler, and 8 Miler. The race is named for the "Pére Malfait," a figure from Cajun folklore described as a large, moss-covered swamp creature.
Course Information
The course uses the Bussey Brake Trail, an 8-mile loop around the Bussey Brake Reservoir. The trail is flat, primarily following a levee top. The front section is exposed to the sun, while the back section offers shade. The trail features holes and large ant piles. There will be two aid stations. One is fully manned at the start/finish area and will offer hot food. A second, on-course station will be located around the 4-mile mark, providing ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks.

The event starts and finishes at Bussey Brake WMA. Nearby lodging options include The Oaks at Bussey, which offers primitive campsites, cabins, and RV hookups, and Chemin-A-Haut State Park, located 7 miles away. The state park provides additional camping, cabins, picnic areas, a swimming pool, and fishing access.
Participant Benefits
All participants receive a finisher medal. Top three male and female finishers in each distance receive a custom plaque. Event swag includes a t-shirt, headbands, and a runner light. A finish meal will be provided, with vegan options available.
