The Pere Malfait Trail Race takes place at Bussey Brake Wildlife Management Area near Bastrop, Louisiana. The event offers multiple distances:

- 16 Miler
- 8 Miler
The course uses trails around Bussey Brake Reservoir. An 8-mile trail follows the top of the reservoir levee and is very flat. Runners should expect holes and large ant piles on parts of the trail. The front side of the course is exposed to sun while the back side has shade. On-course support includes two aid stations: a fully manned station at the start and finish with hot food, and an on-course station around mile 4 providing ice, water, electrolytes, and snacks.
All participants receive a finisher medal and the top three male and female finishers receive custom plaques. Event swag includes a T-shirt, headbands, and a runner light. Race day food selections include PB&J, chips, cookies, quesadilla, grilled cheese, pickles, candy, crackers, potatoes, gummies, sodas, water, ice, and electrolytes. A finish meal is to be determined and vegan options will be available.
Bussey Brake WMA is located about 5 miles northwest of Bastrop off Bonner Ferry Road (LA Hwy 593). Two parking areas are on the west side of the highway and a self-clearing permit station is at the north parking area.
Nearby lodging options include The Oaks at Bussey with primitive campsites, cabins, and full-service RV hookups. Chemin A Haut State Park is about 7 miles away and offers camping, cabins, playgrounds, trails, a seasonal swimming pool, and fishing opportunities.
