Event Overview
The Cerro Gordo Silver Run is an 8-mile uphill running race in the Eastern Sierra. The course climbs 4,600 vertical feet on the historic Cerro Gordo Road, which was built in 1865, finishing at the Cerro Gordo ghost town, once the richest silver mine in California.
Course Details
The single-distance race is an 8-mile route with significant elevation gain. The event includes aid stations positioned approximately every mile along the course. A shuttle service transports runners back down from the finish area. There is no time limit for completing the race.
Post-Race & Amenities
At the mountaintop finish, there is a BBQ, live music, and games. Participants can explore the abandoned ghost town. Each finisher receives a limited-edition event shirt and a finisher's medal. The winner's name is engraved in silver and added to Cerro Gordo's historical records. The 2025 winning time was 1:14:04.
Practical Information
The event starts near Keeler, California. Parking is available in Keeler on race day, with volunteers providing direction. Post-race shuttle buses return participants to these parking areas. Camping spots are available in Keeler for a fee. The town of Lone Pine, approximately 15 miles away, offers other lodging options such as hotels, motels, and RV parks.
