The South Downs Way 50km® is a non-stop 50 km trail race organised by Centurion Running on 13 June 2026. The event is the second annual running of the SDW50km and is part of the World Trail Majors - Short Series. The race starts at Matterley Bowl and finishes in the Event Field at Queen Elizabeth Country Park. Minimum age is 20. Entry fee is £80 (£82 unaffiliated). The published field size is 400 starters.
Course, support and rules
The route lies entirely within the South Downs National Park, primarily on the South Downs Way National Trail. Distance is 50 km (31 mi) with approximately 4000 ft / 1200 m of climb. Terrain is listed as 80% trail and 20% road. The race is fully marked and has four stocked aid stations, full medical support, and live tracking. Runners must finish within a 9 hour cut-off; there are additional intermediate cut-offs at aid stations. Pacers and on-course crews are not permitted. Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and includes a charged mobile phone, water capacity of at least 1 litre, a survival blanket, a waterproof jacket with sealed seams, and a cup. A one-hour time penalty may be imposed for missing mandatory items. Finishers receive a medal; prizes are awarded to top finishers and age-category winners.
