The South Downs Way 50km is a 50 km (31 mi) non-stop trail race held on 13 June 2026 and organised by Centurion Running. The event is part of the World Trail Majors - Short Series and is the second running of this specific race. Minimum age is 20. Entry fee is £80 (£82 for unaffiliated entrants). Entries opened 12 July 2025 and close 5 June 2026. A finishers medal is awarded to finishers only; trophies and category prizes are awarded to top finishers in male, female and age categories.

Course and support

The route lies entirely within the South Downs National Park, following the chalk ridgeway and mostly the South Downs Way National Trail, starting at Matterley Bowl (just outside Winchester) and finishing in the event field at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near the descent off Butser Hill. Total ascent is listed as 4000 ft (1200 m). Terrain is approximately 80% trail and 20% road.

Runners have four aid stations on course, a marked route, full medical support and live tracking. The aid stations provide provisions with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. There is a 9 hour overall cut-off and additional intermediate cut-offs at aid stations. Pacers and crew are not permitted. Mandatory kit includes a charged mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water carrying capacity, survival blanket (1.4 x 2 m), waterproof jacket with sealed seams (min 10000 mm) and a cup; missing mandatory items may incur a one hour time penalty.
