Catherine's Fat Ass

Catherine's Fat Ass is a trail 50k held on the southern Massanutten range and named for a nearby historic iron furnace. The course measures 29.75 miles (just under 50 km) with about 5,700 feet of total ascent and descent. The start/finish is at the Route 211 east trailhead and the event date is Sat Jul 18, 2026.

The course uses a mix of rocky singletrack, forest service roads, creek beds, overlooks, and gravel roads. There are six aid stations located along the route; two locations are used twice. Aid stations at Bird Knob and at Catherine's Furnace (aid stations 1, 2, 5, and 6) are fully stocked. Aid stations 3 and 4 are water only. Runners are assigned items to contribute to the common aid at the main stations; the club and volunteers also supply additional items.

Entry opens Thu Jun 18, 2026 at 9:00 am and the field is limited to 75 runners. A wait list is maintained in chronological order and is used if the initial field fills.

Runners must stay on the marked course; if a runner leaves the course they are required to drop out at an aid station and inform the aid station captain. The event is in remote terrain and the organizing club does not provide medical personnel or medical supplies on course. Runners are responsible for their own health and safety and should be prepared for common trail injuries and delayed emergency response times.
