Cat Lane Canter 2026

The Cat Lane Canter is a trail race held in Norton Lees, starting from Newfield School. The event serves as a fundraiser for three local parent-teacher associations: Carfield Friends, Friends of Meersbrook Bank, and Friends of Newfield. The route traverses undulating footpaths and ancient woodlands between Newfield School and Cat Lane, featuring terrain that can become muddy in wet conditions.

Participants can choose from the following course options:

  • 10 km trail race (minimum age 14)
  • 5 km trail race (minimum age 10)
  • Fun run (available for all ages)

The courses are hilly and off-road, with the total distance sometimes measuring slightly under the stated length on GPS devices. Runners aged 10-11 must be accompanied by an adult, and parental consent is required for all participants under the age of 18. There is a course time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The event is organized with a focus on sustainability, encouraging participants to use public transport, cycle, or walk to the venue. Facilities at Newfield School include limited car parking and food stalls. Refreshments and pre-ordered hot food options are available. The race takes place on public footpaths that remain open to other users during the event. This is a no-dogs event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
