Event

Berkshire Orienteers (BKO) stages an orienteering event at Burghfield on Saturday 22 November 2025. Entries open on 25 October, with an earlybird discounted rate available until 16 November and a later fee structure from 17 November. Early entry fees include Senior £7.00, Junior/Student £3.00, non-member additional charge £2.00, and senior chip hire £2.00. Late fees include Senior £9.00 and Junior/Student £4.00. Juniors are defined as those under 21 on 31 December. The event uses electronic SI dibber timing; contactless punching is enabled except for punching at the start and finish. Chip hire is available and a lost SIAC dibber will be charged at £72 for replacement. All participants must download by the course closure time.

Courses and practical information

Five courses are available:

  • Blue 5.8km
  • Green 4.4km
  • Light Green 4.0km
  • Orange 2.6km
  • Yellow 1.8km

Map size is A4 and all distances are subject to final controlling. Yellow is intended for beginners, including juniors, and may be done solo, in a pair or as a family; controls are mainly on forest paths and marked by orange and white kites. Orange suits juniors developing skills and adults starting out and uses linear features and possible shortcuts. Light Green, Green and Blue include a mandatory manned road crossing; Light Green controls are off paths and require accurate navigation, while Green and Blue visit most of the forest. Parking and assembly access is from Reading Road between Burghfield Common and Mortimer Common (Grid Ref SU645651; what3words: range.pushes.coats). There will be a 500 m walk from the car park to the start/finish area that includes a manned road crossing. No toilets are provided; competitors should bring their own water.
