Event overview

The Maverick Hampshire Trail run takes place on 14 March 2026 at Matterley Basin Grand Prix Track near Winchester in the South Downs National Park. The event is organised by Maverick Race and uses trails that run up and over undulating hills, past the River Itchen, through woodland and back to Cheesefoot Head. Course surfaces include hard-packed trail and bridleways with a few technical descents.

Routes and facilities

  • 24 km - Half Marathon, elevation gain approx +407 m
  • 16 km - Middle route, elevation gain approx +293 m
  • 5 km - Short route, elevation gain approx +125 m

The Half Marathon route has two outposts at about 7.5 km and 13 km. The Middle route has one outpost at about 7.5 km. There are toilets at the second outpost (Half Marathon only) and toilets in the start/finish area. Pre-filled water cups are not provided; self-serve water barrels are available and participants are asked to use a reusable cup or bottle.

Free parking is available at the venue. Vehicle access to the event area is via the A272 only; there is no access via the A31. Headphones are strongly discouraged. The event is dog friendly if a dog is added to the entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
