The Maverick Hampshire Trail is a trail running event scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026. The event is located at the Matterley Basin Grand Prix Track in Winchester, within the South Downs National Park.

Routes

There are three route options:

  • Half Marathon: 24 km with 410 m of elevation gain.
  • Middle: 16 km with 298 m of elevation gain.
  • Short: 5 km with 125 m of elevation gain.

The routes explore the trails surrounding Winchester. They include undulating hills with panoramic views, sections past the River Itchen, and through woodland. The trails are described as fast and hard-packed. There is no outpost (aid station) on the Short route. The Half Marathon route has two outposts, while the Middle route has one.

Additional Information

The event is described as dog-friendly, though separate dog entries are required and are noted as sold out. The organizer encourages runners to bring a reusable cup or bottle, as outposts aim to be cup-free with self-serve water barrels. A 5k obstacle event at Southsea Common on 09 May 2026 where participants climb, crawl and slide around a flat route while raising funds for cancer research; facilities include toilets and refreshments and accessibility support is provided.

A camp-based Backyard Ultra at Chilton Manor Farm featuring a repeated loop through private trails, fields and woodland with a high point at Bugmore Hill Trig Point and on-site aid, toilets and course photography.

A hilly, scenic trail event in the South Downs offering 10 km and 20 km senior races plus 3 km and 5 km junior races. Routes follow footpaths and bridleways, are marshalled and include water stations and age category awards.

A one lap *10 km* trail through Hampton Estate and Puttenham Common with undulating hills and bluebell woods. Chip timing, finish medals and on-site parking, with food and refreshments available at the finish.
