The Maverick Hampshire Trail 2027
The Maverick Hampshire Trail takes place on Saturday 20 March 2027 at Matterley Basin Grand Prix Track, Winchester, in the South Downs National Park. The course explores open chalk downland, flowing singletrack and bridleways around historic Winchester and Cheesefoot Head.
The trails combine fast, hard‑packed sections with punchy climbs and some technical descents. Routes pass the River Itchen, run through woodland sections and move out onto exposed ridgelines with panoramic views across the National Park. The surface is generally firm and suitable for runners prepared for undulating terrain.
There are three route options:
- Half Marathon: 24 km, elevation gain +410 m
- Middle: 16 km, elevation gain +298 m
- Short: 5 km, elevation gain +125 m
Facilities on race day include free parking, a fully marked and timed course, precision fuel and hydration outposts (no outpost on the Short route), online results, event photography, food and drink, a bag drop area, and a metal finishers medal. Outposts provide snacks, gels and electrolyte drink and the event aims to be cup free so runners should bring a refillable bottle or cup.
Organisers request that runners respect on-course signage and marshals, take care when crossing roads, and complete the course within about four hours to reduce pressure on marshals. Transfers are possible via the ticket platform up to five days before the event when spaces allow. Essential items include trail shoes, a water bottle or running pack and a reusable cup.
