The Maverick Hampshire Trail 2027
The event takes place at Matterley Basin Grand Prix Track near Winchester inside the South Downs National Park. Routes run across rolling chalk downland with open landscapes, flowing singletrack, bridleways and sections of woodland. The course includes fast, hard-packed trails and punchy climbs that open out to panoramic views toward Cheesefoot Head and follows sections adjacent to the River Itchen.
Three route options are available:
- Half Marathon: 24 km, +410 m elevation
- Middle: 16 km, +298 m elevation
- Short: 5 km, +125 m elevation
The course is fully marked and fully timed. On-course outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink; there is no outpost on the Short route. Organisers aim to keep outposts cup-free so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. Free parking is available at the venue. Nearest train station is Winchester, about a 15 minute drive; journey time from London Waterloo is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes.
Participants are asked to follow on-course signage and marshals, take care when crossing roads, and close gates. There is an expected finish window by 2pm, which equates to a 4 hour completion guideline. The event is dog friendly with a limited number of dog spaces.
