The Maverick Hampshire Trail 2026

The event takes place on Saturday 14 March 2026 at Matterley Basin Grand Prix Track, Winchester, Hampshire. It uses trails in the South Downs National Park around Winchester and visits locations such as the River Itchen and Cheesefoot Head.

Routes run over undulating hills and well marked bridleways. The course includes woodland sections and some technical descents. The organiser advises against wearing headphones.

  • Half Marathon: 24 km, +410 m
  • Middle route: 16 km, +298 m
  • Short route: 5 km, +125 m

Outposts and facilities There is one outpost on the Short route at about 3.8 km, one on the Middle route at about 7.5 km, and two on the Half Marathon at about 7.5 km and 13 km. Outposts provide snacks, gels and electrolyte drink but not pre filled water cups. Runners are asked to use a reusable cup or bottle. Toilets are available at the second outpost, which only the Half Marathon passes, and within the start and finish area; there are no toilets along the Short or Middle routes.

Other information Free parking is available at the venue. The course is fully marked and fully timed, with online results and event photography. Entries are subject to a small booking fee. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Dog entries have sold out; the event is dog friendly when a dog is added to an entry. Explore Amesbury by torchlight in a lively 60 minute score orienteering event with 24 controls, based at the New Inn. Pre entry is required, so bring lights and hi viz clothing, and juniors under 16 must be accompanied.
