Brokenagan Backyard Ultra
Brokenagan Backyard Ultra
The event takes place at Silver Star Provincial Park near Vernon, British Columbia, at an elevation of 5,500 feet. It offers two main formats: a Backyard Ultra and a separate 24 hour endurance event available as a solo run or a two person relay.
The Backyard Ultra uses a single loop of 4 miles 880 feet (metric 6.7056 kilometers) to be completed once each hour. Each loop must be finished in less than an hour and competitors must be inside the starting corral at the bell. The last runner to complete a loop is the winner; if no participant completes more loops than the others there is no winner.
The loop includes single and double track, hard pack and grassy terrain, and passes through forest, open meadows with wildflowers, marshy lowlands, and along a mountain lake using the maintained cross-country ski trails of Sovereign Lake Nordic Club.
Aid stations are available each lap with water, electrolytes, snacks, and first aid. The event features music, a sponsor expo, volunteers, and a staging area where participants can set up aid tents and access massage therapy. Runners receive a custom bib, a swag bag, a finisher prize, and professional timing.
Early registration fee is $100 CAD per runner until January 31, 2026. Participants must be 18 years or older on race day; minors may participate with prior permission from the Race Director. T-shirt and meal options are available for an extra fee; GST and processing fees are not included. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
