Breakheart Backyard Ultra

The Breakheart Backyard Ultra is a looped ultra event where competitors must complete a distance of 6706 metres (4.167 miles) within each hour. The same distance is repeated every hour until only one runner completes a loop that no other competitor can match. Any time remaining at the end of a lap may be used for recovery or refuelling. Runners receive 3, 2 and 1 minute warnings before each hour. Competitors must be in the starting corral at the bell; failure to start a loop on time or to finish a loop within the hour results in withdrawal.

The event takes place in June 2026 with on-site arrival and registration from Friday 12th June and the running on Saturday 13th June. The venue is Breakheart Quarry nature reserve, Stinchcombe Hill Road, Dursley, GL11 6ER, set in Cotswold countryside. The route follows mixed trail paths with about 560 ft of elevation gain per lap.

Event services include timing, a fully marked route, an event team with first aid and marshals, camping without electrical hook-ups, plumbed toilets including disabled facilities, charging points, an indoor shelter, hot and cold water, snacks, a log fire, a zero waste log slice medal and a Gert Lush beanie. Parking is limited. Registration requires a race waiver and adherence to the race rules, including no personal aid during a loop and no artificial aids such as trekking poles.
