Backyard Nonsense

Backyard Nonsense is an ultrarunning event at Richard Bong State Recreation Area near Vern Wolf Lake in Brighton / Kansasville, Wisconsin on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The event offers timed loop and continuous run formats over a day and night setting.

Race options include:

  • Backyard 24 using a 4.1 mile loop repeated each hour
  • 24 hour Ultra continuous running for 24 hours
  • 12 hour timed event
  • 6 hour timed event
  • 3 hour timed event

The courses run on marked trails through the recreation area and around Vern Wolf Lake, with rolling hills and scenic views noted by the organizer. Group campgrounds are reserved for the weekend and a central home base will provide support spaces between loops.

Participants and support crews must have a 2026 Wisconsin State Park pass for their vehicle or purchase a day pass at the park entrance. The organizer provides a number of free entries intended for BIPOC and LGBTQ plus athletes; these entries are distributed confidentially while funds last. The event accepts each entrant's declared gender without additional evidence and accommodates non binary entries by amending records on request.

The event is organized by Curious Ultrarunner's Secret Society, which states a mission to help others fall in love with ultrarunning and a vision that combines humor and endurance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
