Course, safety, and logistics

The course is a figure-8 loop with a short middle section run twice each lap; each lap is about 16.7 km (10.4 miles). 50K runners complete multiple laps and must return to the Start/Finish/Aid Area at the end of each lap. The only aid station is in the Start/Finish area; there are no aid stations on the course, so runners must be self-supporting. Mandatory equipment is checked at the start and before every lap and includes a windproof or waterproof jacket, warm mid layer, warm head covering, warm gloves, foil blanket, whistle, at least 200 calories of instant energy, and a headlamp for later laps. The first two laps have a 6.5-hour limit; the overall course time limit is 10.5 hours. Live tracking is available via the event timing app but requires cell service. Course terrain includes cliff-top single track, mud, rocks, slippery roots, and bog bridging; some sections are unstable and unfenced. Drop bags are allowed in the Start/Finish area. Camping parking is permitted 600 metres north of the trailhead for up to 12 vehicles, no open fires. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
