Black Squirrel Trail Half Marathon - Lory State Park
The Black Squirrel Trail Half Marathon takes place on the trails of Lory State Park northwest of Fort Collins, Colorado. The course makes a perimeter loop of the park and offers views to the east of Horsetooth Reservoir, Fort Collins and the Great Plains, and to the west of the Rocky Mountain peaks.

- Kids 1 mile on gently rolling singletrack
Terrain is predominantly singletrack with approximately 12 miles of dirt singletrack and 1 mile of dirt road. Runners climb roughly 1,500 feet between mile two and mile six, then descend over the next two and a half miles before a final section of gently rolling singletrack. Min and max elevations are about 5,400' and 7,000', with an average elevation near 6,100'.
Aid stations are fully stocked with water and a sports drink; one aid station (mile 8.5) offers additional snacks. The course is marked with flagging, pin flags, flour ground markings and directional arrows. Facilities include toilets at the start/finish and at trailheads on course. There is a 5.5 hour overall time limit and a registration cap of 400 participants. Post-race provisions include a pancake breakfast, awards, gender specific race T-shirt, and a pint glass finisher award. Free park entry for the day and professional medical coverage are provided.
