Races and logistics
- Black Beacon 100 - 100 miles, +7500 m ascent
- Black Beacon 50 - 50 miles, +3750 m ascent
- Black Beacon Ultra Bach - 50 km, +2200 m ascent
- Black Beacon North - 21 miles, +1200 m ascent
The 100 mile is an out-and-back traverse between Hay on Wye and Pontneddfechan and crosses many summits. Races are linear so some competitors use coach transport from finish to start; a coach option is available for a fee. Checkpoints provide refreshments; the 100 and 50 mile races have the most checkpoints. Two drop bags are available for 100 mile runners and one for 50 mile runners. Time limits apply to each distance (for example the 100 mile has a 42-hour limit). Navigation requirements vary: the 50 mile, 50 km and 21 mile routes are marked at major junctions and use a GPS trace, while the 100 mile route is unmarked for the first half and must be followed using the published GPS trace. A compulsory kit list is required and participants must be self-sufficient in mountain conditions. Entry fees range from £50 to £160 depending on distance.
