Black Beacon Mountain Races
The Black Beacon Mountain Races are linear long distance mountain trail races that cross the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Parks from south to north. The event takes place from Friday 30 October to Sunday 1 November 2026 and is organised by Run Walk Crawl.
Race distances:
- Black Beacon 100: 100 miles, +7500 m ascent, out and back
- Black Beacon 50: 50 miles, +3750 m ascent, Pontneddfechan to Hay on Wye
- Black Beacon South: 50 km, +2200 m ascent, Pontneddfechan to Llangynidir
- Black Beacon North Trail Race: 21 miles, +1200 m ascent, Llangynidir to Hay on Wye
Checkpoints and support are provided along the courses, with 13 checkpoints for the 100 mile race, 6 for the 50 mile race, and 3 each for the 50 km and 21 mile races. Trails are described as generally fast and not overly technical, with relatively straightforward navigation. The route includes waterfalls, reservoirs and mountain summits typical of the region.
Entries are open from 28 November 2025 until 25 October 2026. Minimum age for entry is 18. Entry fees range from £50 for the 21 mile race to £160 for the 100 mile race. There is an option to add coach transport from the finish to the start and an optional XCover policy is available for possible refunds in specified circumstances.
