Blorenge Fell Race

Blorenge is a short fell race held from the Village Hall in Llanfoist, near Abergavenny (grid reference SO 287134). The course is a straight up and down mountain route with a total distance of 5.7 km (about 3.5 miles) and roughly 485 m of climb. The highest point reaches about 600 m and the terrain is mainly low-lying moorland and open fell.

The route is mostly unmarked but follows obvious trails for much of the way. There is one descent that can be difficult to find; temporary markers are used there. The ascent and descent are very steep in places and can be technical, especially on the downhill sections, so runners should manage their speed and run within their technical ability. Weather can affect navigation and safety; wind, rain and fog may make the course harder and require navigational skills. Use of GPS for route finding is permitted but runners who use GPS should inform a race official on the day so they may be recorded as non-competitive.

Practical details: minimum age is over 16. Entry is £6 by pre-entry only, there is no entry on the day. Parking at the venue is limited. The site is about a 30 to 40 minute walk from Abergavenny and is directly on a cycle path with safe bike storage. Rail and bus services serve Abergavenny; walking times from the station are noted for attendees. Runners are advised to carry full kit including waterproofs and to respect landowners and livestock. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
