The Birds of a Feather Trail Trot is a Thanksgiving Day trail running event at Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill, NC on November 26, 2026. The event is staged from Great Meadow Park at Briar Chapel, with neighborhood and overflow parking available near the staging area.

Distances offered

  • 2 Mile (timed) : paved, grass, smooth trail; 2.04 miles.
  • 5K : dirt double-track and single-track with roots and rocks; 3.38 miles.
  • 10K : extended double-track and single-track with roots and short climbs; 6.2 miles.

Course notes and support

The courses begin with paved sections to separate the field, then continue onto grass and nontechnical trails for the 2 mile, and onto more technical double and single track for the 5K and 10K. Elevation gains are published for each course. Aid stations provide water and sports drink at locations on each course, with three stations on the 10K, one on the 5K, and one on the 2 mile course. Chip timing is used for the timed events; the 2 mile fun run is untimed.

Family and event details

The event includes a free Kids Race for Treasure for children 11 and under, age group awards, an awards ceremony with contests and giveaways, and post race pie. Entry is limited to keep the field small; each timed race is capped and the overall event has a total participant cap. Strollers are permitted only on the 2 mile fun run.
