Event Overview
The Shark Week Showdown is a themed running event organized by Bigfoot Running Company. It takes place at Stars & Stripes Park in Oklahoma City. The event features a family-friendly, ocean-themed atmosphere with music at the start and finish line.
Distances
The event offers several race distances:
- Kids Dash: A short, non-timed dash for participants aged 10 and under.
- 1 Mile Run: A non-chip-timed run.
- 5K Run (3.1 miles): A chip-timed event known as "The Fin Frenzy."
- 10K Run (6.22 miles): A chip-timed event known as "The Deep End Challenge."
- Virtual Run: A remote participation option.
- Volunteer then Run 5K: A limited option allowing participants to volunteer before running the 5K.
Participant Perks
All in-person race entries include a race tee and a finisher medal. The Kids Dash provides a special medal for younger participants. Participants in the chip-timed 5K and 10K events also receive a treat ticket. Aid stations are available along the courses.
Awards
The 5K and 10K events feature awards for the first overall male and female finishers (Bigfoot Trophy), first masters finishers (40+), and standard age group awards from 10 & under to 70+.
Course and Logistics
The course terrain includes a mix of pavement, crushed granite, and some dirt paths. Packet pickup opens 1.5 hours before the race start. A shirt is guaranteed for registrations completed at least 10 days before race day. The event proceeds regardless of weather conditions.
