Big Tex Backyard Ultra

The event takes place at Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas. The park provides a large grass area near a group dining hall screen shelter for personal crew and aid setups, plus reserved campsites and full hookup RV sites. Trails are wide, well maintained, mostly crushed gravel, and have minimal elevation change.

The main format is a backyard ultra with a 4.17 mile yard that starts every hour. Runners must finish each yard within the hour and be in the starting corral to begin the next one. Yard rules include timed warnings before each start and a requirement that competitors may not receive aid once they are on the course. Non competitors may not be on the course and artificial aids including trekking poles are not allowed.

Additional divisions and awards are listed below. All participants receive a Big Tex hoodie and a customized poster showing completed yards. Runners who complete 24 yards receive a 100 mile buckle. The overall winner is paid a dollar for every mile they run and the seconder receives a dollar for each yard completed.
