Big Tex Backyard Ultra

San Felipe, United States • 18 Oct 2025

The Big Tex Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event held at Stephen F. Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas. Featuring a "last runner standing" format, participants run a 4.17-mile loop ("yard") every hour on the hour, continuing until only one runner remains.

The course consists of wide, well-maintained crushed gravel trails with minimal elevation change. Runners can set up personal aid stations in a large grass area near the group dining hall, with full support including a stocked aid station and medical tent. Completing 24 yards earns a 100-mile buckle.

The event is part of a qualifying series leading to national and world backyard ultra championships. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
