Night Moves Trail Races
The Night Moves Trail Races take place at Stephen F Austin State Park in San Felipe, Texas, located west of Houston. This nighttime event features a course consisting of wide trails composed primarily of gravel and dirt. While the terrain is mostly flat, the route includes several quick elevation changes. All participants are required to carry a hydration device and a light, as the race is a cupless event and occurs after dark.
The course is marked with reflectors and ribbons to assist with navigation. The race utilizes a looped format starting and finishing at the park's group dining hall. This central hub serves as the location for packet pickup, the primary aid station, the timing area, and a spectator lawn where runners can set up personal support areas with tents or chairs.
The event offers several distances:
- Marathon (8 loops including specific trail add-ons)
- Half Marathon (4 loops including a specific trail add-on)
- 10k (2 loops)
- 5k (1 loop)
- Free kids race
A fully stocked aid station is located at the start and finish line, offering various fluids, electrolytes, sweet and salty snacks, and hot food such as grilled cheese and quesadillas. An additional unmanned water refill point is available at a road crossing during the loops. Participants must finish all distances by a collective cutoff time of 2 AM on Sunday.
Parking is available along the right side of the park road. While registered runners and volunteers do not need a park pass, guests are required to purchase a guest pass through the organizer as standard annual state park passes are not valid for this special event.
